Fleetwood Club Grading - Results.

We held a large club grading at Cardinal Allen high school on Sunday 27th September. There were a vast range of grades attending, for some students this was their first grading of 9th Kyu yellow belt and it went right through the grades to students attempting their 1st Kyu, the last Kyu grade before black belt.

A big thank you must go to the parents, family members and friends who watched from the sides and as always gave your fantastic support to all those grading on the day.

We need to mention too a special thanks to Sensei Gavin Oliphant, Sensei Julie Dudley, Sensei Gary McDonald, Sensei Martin Thomas, Sensei Del Knowles and Sempai Kirsty Churchouse, Junior Instructors Nathan Crowther and Kieran Lydon, and Junior Sempai’s Brandon Crowther, Chelsea Grundy, Jack Churchouse, Taigen Swinburn, Laighton Worthington, Elliott Bertram and Lauren Welsh, for helping out with the grading as well as being a massive support to Sensei Simon and great role models in the club.

Every student who attempted their next grade did fantastically well, and all successfully passed after putting in 100% effort and focus. Every student grading behaved impeccably, some of these students are still very young and this is brilliant to see for a grading that is three hours long! Once again all the students helped, supported and encouraged each other, something that is commented on a lot from spectators and new students who have heard only positives about Musuko Karate Academy and then joined the club.

A special mention must go to Justin Bond who was attempting his 8th Kyu orange belt. Justin who is only 6 years of age was a little pocket rocket on the day and gave it his all from start to finish. Well done Justin, brilliant work!

Congratulations must go to the purple belts who had to kumite for quite a long time in order to see how their stamina and fitness coped. All the students in this grade section worked extremely hard and stayed focused and composed throughout. Very well done to , Harvey Atkinson, Max Gray, Connor Mooney and Jack Southern on gaining their 4th Kyu grades.

We always mention individually those students who reach the grade of 3rd Kyu brown belt and above. To get to this level and beyond takes many years of training, dedication and determination, so it is only right that these students are all individually congratulated along with their grades.

Charlotte Bertram2nd Kyu

Charlotte is a fantastic student who consistently attends classes and trains hard in each and every one. This girl just keeps getting better and better, so much so that Sensei Simon thought Charlotte was ready to move forward to 2nd Kyu in a shorter than usual time scale. She certainly didn’t disappoint at the grading, and gave it 100% from start to finish. Charlotte has brilliant karate in all areas. Her kata’s are well practiced and executed and her kumite is really strong and controlled. When put under difficult situations like two on one sparring she handled it brilliantly! We are very excited to see what the future holds for Charlotte with her karate and we very much look forward to seeing her progress towards her black belt and beyond in the not too distant future. Well done Charlotte, fantastic work and congratulations!

Jordan Morley 2nd Kyu

Jordan is a quiet and polite student who just gets on with the job in hand. He trains along with his dad Chris and little brother Jimmi and the family are an absolute pleasure to have in the club. Jordan has improved greatly since his 3rd Kyu and this really stood out at his grading. His kata’s were much cleaner and he had greater control and knowledge in the kumite section which he handled brilliantly. Jordan never lost his cool once and this is showing a great maturity in someone still quite young.  Jordan has at times lacked some confidence in the past, but this didn’t seem apparent at his grading which was fantastic to see. Jordan is a determined young man and has what it takes to go all the way to black belt and beyond. Well done Jordan keep up the great work, you are improving all the time! Congratulations on your 2nd Kyu!

Katie Knowles1st Kyu

Katie is a lovely polite girl who regularly trains three times a week along with her dad Sensei Del. Katie never misses classes, and is one of the most consistent and supportive students in the club, attending every course or event we hold. Katie worked very hard at her grading and did really well. She is another student who has improved significantly since her last grading. Katie always comes into class early and spends time practicing her kata’s and this really paid off for her on her grading day. She had good clean kata’s and you could see that she was confident with them. In her kumite Katie was pushed to and beyond her comfort zone but handled it all brilliantly even though she was really tired. Katie never gave up and showed a real steel character within her which is what karate is all about. Keep up the great work Katie all that practice is certainly paying off. Congratulations on your 1st Kyu, next step black belt!

Lucy Hulme1st Kyu

Lucy is another of our talented girls in the club. Lucy trains three times a week along with her sister Freya and is always a pleasure to have in class. Her stretching routines which she regularly takes as part of her Junior Sempai role are brilliant and done with great confidence. Lucy has good clean kata’s and brilliant kicks and kumite. On the grading day Lucy was outstanding! She worked really hard from start to finish and by the end was bright red!  In the kumite section Lucy really came into her own and handled any situation given to her with an attitude way beyond her years. This girl has got real guts and determination and it really showed. No one could say that Lucy certainly didn’t give it her all! Well done Lucy you certainly deserved your 1st Kyu, next stop black belt and we have no doubt you will go all the way! Congratulations.

Martin Wilmot – 1st Kyu

Sensei Martin is a fantastic asset to the club. He is very supportive and attends every event or course we hold.  He is an absolute pleasure to have in class, very rarely misses training and always gives every aspect of his karate 100%. Martin was brilliant at his grading he worked tirelessly from start to finish and let nothing faze him. Martin’s kata’s do need some work, and Martin knows this, and this is something Sensei Simon will work closely with Martin at in class. In the kumite section Martin was pushed really hard especially towards the end. He never once lost his cool, remaining composed all the time no matter what was asked or thrown at him, and despite having nothing left he just carried on regardless. Martin is a very popular member of the club and he had great encouragement from the other students watching from the side. We are very much looking forward to seeing Martin attempt his black belt in the coming months. Congratulations Martin you were very admirable on the day, fully deserving of your 1st Kyu. Congratulations keep up the great work!

Christopher Morley – 1st Kyu

Chris is a great guy and another absolute pleasure to have in class. Chris is a very well-liked student and always shows great enthusiasm and dedication in his training. He is very supportive and attends every course or event we hold. Sometimes work commitments can get in the way of Chris’s training but he always makes up for this when he attends classes. On the grading day Chris was brilliant from start to finish. His kata’s were of a good standard and had been practiced well. In the kumite Chris was awesome! He was pushed well beyond his comfort zone, but handled every section brilliantly. He had some tough rounds to endure including two on ones, but nothing fazed him and he showed that he has improved so much since his last grading. By the end Chris was exhausted but never gave up and he had great encouragement from the other students watching. Chris’s determination will see him go all the way to black belt and beyond, and we very much look forward to watching Chris attempt his black belt. Congratulations Chris you really deserved your 1st Kyu. Well done!
